Indigo has effected the world both negatively and positively, through the Champaran Peace Revolts in India, Indigo trade through North America, and trade routes through Muslim territories to Europeans.
Jeans were first created in Europe during the 18th century. Workers wore jeans because the cotton material was strong and couldn't rip easily. The name "Jeans" comes from Genoa, Italy, because sailors there used to wear cloth pants that were similar to jeans. The word "denim" comes from the name of a French cloth material called "serge de Nimes" which means "Material from Nimes" which is a place in France. Jeans were normally made of cotton and dyed blue with indigo dyes. The jeans during this time were no more than a different type of corduroy weave.

Jeans were first created by Levi Strauss, who was a German immigrant who lived in New York. He was the first to manufacture rivets to hold together jeans so that they would be stronger and wouldn't rip as easily, which was very useful to people working in California trying to pan for gold. He had a famous advertisement for the strength of his jeans, saying that even a horse couldn't pull the jeans apart.
